Ancient Mayans

It was believed by archeologist that the indigenous Maya were the first people to have setlled in Belize. Even today, the abundant cultural treasures, artifacts, and ruins remain dispersed everywhere.

In the peak of the great civilization of the Maya-the Classic Maya era (250-900 AD), to be exact-the people of Maya developed numerous surrounding settlements in Belize. Stone structures, pyramid-temples, burial mounds, as well as palaces that will have been the centre of governance of the smaller cities in Maya, were found by European explorers hundreds of years following the fall of Maya, in 1500 AD.

It was declared that the affluence of the Aztecs in addition to the arrival of Spanish explorers during 1500 were said to be the reasons which brought the Mayan civilization to an end

Nonetheless, the culture and history of the Maya continued to be and were handed down the folks of Belize, which became the fundamental structure for contemporary Belize culture.

Exploring The Mayan Ruins In Belize

Caracol

Found between the borders of Guatemala and the Belizean half of the Peten tropical forest, Caracol is maybe the most prominent Mayan site all over Belize. Thousand-year-old structures of wonderful palaces stand as proof of the extraordinary kingdoms that when lived there.

It was revealed that Belize once was the seat of power of one of several valuable kingdoms of Maya. It was in Belize that the political struggles concerning the southern lowlands of the Maya were resolved during the classic period of the Maya civilization. Additionally, it is where a lot of the ruling bodies assisted oversee the governance of Maya.

The positioned armies of Caracol were a force to be reckoned with. Archaeological evidences illustrate that the kingdom in Caracol was the one that in the end subjugated Tikal, is said to be another vital kingdom that once thrived in the land now often known as Campeche, Mexico.

Lumanai

If Caracol was acknowledged for its power, Lumanai was noted for its achievements. Lumanai, a spanning settlement of Classic Maya situated along New River, in Orange Walk District, is just one of the longest-occupied settlements in Mesoamerica.

Cerros

Present in Chetumal Bay, north of Belize, Cerros is probably the initial Maya archeological site founded in Belize, throughout the Late Pre-Classic Maya, around 250 or 300 AD.

Normally, most people would ask, "Where is Belize located?" Most people would think that it is in South America while some believe it's somewhere in Africa. Belize is situated neither of them. Essentially, Belize is simply under Mexico, next to Guatemala.

What makes Belize an ideal place for scuba diving are the surrounding Western Caribbean Sea and Pacific ocean. Apart from other things, snorkeling or boating is another exciting activity to try in Belize.

What Makes Belize a Great Diving Spot?

A lot of travelers came to love Belize because of the anonymity of the place. The place is so different from contemporary world and can offer a good opportunity to relax. But the place can offer you all the comforts you need for modern lifestyle.

Just off the coast is a Coral Reef that is second largest after the Great Barrier Reef and is considered one of the best places for diving. The reef itself stretches a total of 290km and is home to a great selection of different forms of marine life including some of the worlds rarest and most endangered. This is where both the American Crocodile and West Indian Manatee live along with 178 different plant and 247 different marine flora species.

Reason 3 - Soft Adventure

When you choose to visit Belize you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to soft adventures. For those who are up for a challenge why not take the Aerial Trek Canopy Tour or have a ride on the Zip Line at Jaguar Paw.

Reason 4 - Ka'ana Boutique Resort and Spa

This resort is located about 2 hours from the country's airport and offers a great place to stay in order to explore more of what this wonderful country has to offer. Even though it isn't close to a beach the relaxing atmosphere created within this resort will ensure that you have an absolutely fantastic holiday.

Reason 5 - Food

This is one of the best of our 7 great reasons to visit Belize. The food that is available to be enjoyed here is not as you would find in other parts of the world as it is a mixture of flavours from various other countries. Certainly there is a strong Caribbean influence to the food served but also Mexico, Spain and Africa have influences in the cuisine as well. Of course with the abundance of coastline then seafood is a very stable part of this country's diet and so are fresh tropical fruits.

Reason 6 - Mayan Ruins

Between 250AD and 900AD Belize is where many Mayan people chose to live and was the centre of the Mayan civilization. Today as you explore this country you will find that there are many ruins of this ancient civilization still standing including some truly spectacular temples and palaces. There however is one set of Mayan ruins to be found around 130km west of Belize City that should be visited when you come to this country known as Xunantunich.

Reason 7 - Weather

The final one of our 7 great reasons to visit Belize concerns the weather. If you want to visit somewhere that has wonderful weather all year round then Belize is a place to consider visiting. Throughout the year the climate here remains pretty hot and humid, but in the winter it does cool down a little. However generally temperatures sit at around 27 degrees C, although during the month of June they can reach as high as 29 degrees C. Should you wish to visit Belize when it is both warm and dry then opt to come between February and May as this is when the least rain is going to fall.
